Re: How to treat a founder member!
Hi John,
Many thanks for the detailed reply, I understand a bit better now. It probably means that due to our coming and going I shall be unable to ever play as a member in a Presidents Cup & Special Events (If held early in any year) but that is life I suppose. I still look forward to playing with the Society in October and November.
Many Thanks for your tollerance.
Kind Regards
Robin

Presidents Cup
Hi Robin,
I have read both your replies to myself and to Gordon and whilst I can appreciate your views you of course being absent the majority of the year from Spain do not get to hear what happens at meetings or what the concensus of the membership/views they express/ matters pressing etc.are.
Sometimes these matters can be dealt with at a later date or as was the posistion here had to be dealt with straight away.If we had waited for an AGM we would have been too late.
When the wishes of the membership are already known (as was the case here) it only requires a vote from the membership.
At that particular meeting there was over 40 persons in the room at the time of the vote and as I said previously, the vote was unanimous.
Another part of this motion applied to future "Special Events" It asked that not only do we adopt this procedure for this particular game but also for future "Special Events" This again was carried unanimously. So to answer your question "YES" in the future we will be looking at "Qualification" for Special Event games.
Under the "ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION" it states that and I quote "Every member shall play at least 6 times per year to retain full membership" In this particular instance as the game had been moved forward to June (half the year) we looked for 3 games to have been played.
I trust this explains what happened

Re: How to treat a founder member!
Hi John,
thanks for the reply I did understand some of it. However it seems that a small number of members attending can make changes that affect the whole membership. I thought in a democracy everyone had a chance to vote on matters! Surely a matter such as this should have been a matter for the AGM?
However looking forward to playing in October when we finally get back into some sort of normality.
To explain my absence in the early part of the year, I had to return home to the UK due to the critical nature of my mother in law's health otherwise I would have had the necessary three games. In my Golf club in the UK we do not penalise members under these circumstances.
Finally and I then will let the matter drop, is this to happen every year? What is the qualifying period prior to the Presidents cup?
Thanks again for your tollerance.

Re: How to treat a founder member!
Thanks Gordon.
I canot understand the three games. In what period were members required to play the three games previously? It seems that I was penalised for not being in Spain. This seems to discriminate against members who go back and forth in favour of resident members.
Thanks Again

Presidents Day
Hi Robin,
You did aproach me at the end of this social function and I thought I had explained to you the reasons behind this decision.
We try as far as possible to run the Society as democratically as we can. This obviously means listening to what the membership requires, where needed taking a vote from the membership and acting on their wishes.
As explained by Gordon this resolution came from the membership and not from the committee. It was put to the membership and voted on.As far as I recall it was passed unanimously. We as a committee were therfore bound to carry out the wishes of the membership.
This was not a personal matter against you as there were many other members who fell into the same category.
As far as not knowing about this decision, it was posted to the internet and remained on there for some weeks.Again I cannot recall who you played with, but they would have been fully aware of this.
I trust this now clarifies the posistion

presidents day
Hello Robin,
To keep it brief why you played as a guest on Presidents day along with other long standing members is that a member of the society got up a petition which was signed by many members stating that there should be a number of games played by each member to qualify ie 3.
It was put to the committe who had no choice but to put it before the membership on a booking Thursday they voted unamiously in favour of the qualifying games.I am sure you will have another reply from other members and committee members.
Gordon

How to treat a founder member!
Hi there,
Hjaving just returned from the USA I want to take up an issue
I would like some explanation for the actions that were taken at the Presidents Cup when I was treated as a guest and NOT TOLD about that situation before I played on the day.
I have been a member since the inception of the society being a founder member, I play everytime I am in Spain and I keep my handicap up to date. For some reason (I had been in the southern hemispere a lot) it seems that somebody decided that as I hadn't played for a while I should be treated as a guest (Although I was accorded my Campoverde handicap!!). I played unsuspecting the situation which was not explained until AFTER the presentation dinner.
As a result, whilst if treated as normal I would have won some thing, I was excludeed from the scoreing and not shown as even being present on the Presidents day score sheet. I think I must be invisible!
Please tell me that I will not be treated in a similar fashion when I return in October??? And tell me why I was treated so?
A somewhat disenchanted member
